After savouring a delightful breakfast, embark on an exciting journey from Mt Hagen to Mindima village, a picturesque three-hour drive through stunning landscapes. Upon arrival, you’ll check in and settle into your room. Post-lunch, your adventure begins with the fascinating Insect Hunters and the Ash Kondai Pia, who will immerse you in a vibrant array of traditional activities, including captivating songs, dynamic dances, and enchanting storytelling. As the evening unfolds, unwind and let the rhythm of the local string band music, “Taim bilong samsam,” sweep you off your feet. Join in the fun and dance with the locals, creating unforgettable memories. You’ll also witness the intriguing courting ritual known as the “tanim het,” performed by the village’s spirited youth. Conclude your day with a delicious dinner and a cozy overnight stay at the Skeleton Eco Lodge.
After a hearty breakfast, the morning begins with a captivating performance by the Skeleton Tribe. Once the performance concludes, it’s time to return to the lodge, pack up, and prepare for another exciting road trip to the enchanting Asaro Valley, home of the renowned Asaro Mudmen. Lunch will be packed for the journey, allowing for a meal on the go. Along the way, there will be a delightful stop at a local coffee factory and a visit to a picturesque waterfall. A pause at the Daulo Top lookout offers breathtaking views into the Asaro Valley. Upon arrival at Asaro village, check-in at the lodge is followed by a leisurely walk through the village. These folk dances, performed by women, are typically reserved for special occasions such as bride price ceremonies. To conclude the visit to Gimesave Village, witness the dramatic burning heads performance, demonstrating how fire was historically used to chase away bats and flying foxes. Back at Asaro Village, the pig slayer will be ready for those interested in witnessing the traditional pig killing. The pig will then be prepared for a thank-you feast, cooked with vegetables on hot stones and covered with leaves in a method known as ‘mumu’. Enjoy the local hospitality and a delicious meal.
