The Kokoda Trail is more than just a trek; it’s a pilgrimage, a physical and mental challenge that traces the footsteps of WWII heroes through the spirit of Papua New Guinea. We help you trek this iconic path, experiencing its raw beauty, profound history, and the indomitable spirit of the Papuan people.
Our 9-day itinerary takes you beyond the battlefield narratives, gripping you in the breath-taking diversity of PNG’s landscapes. Explore lush green wildernesses, cross rivers on hanging bridges, and climb steep slopes for breath-taking views that go on for miles.
Buna Treks and Tours knows the Kokoda Trail intimately. Our expert guides, many descendants of WWII carriers, share their knowledge and stories, bringing the history of the track to life. You will visit battle sites, learn about the bravery of soldiers on both sides and gain a deeper understanding of the impact of war on this peaceful land.
But the Kokoda Trail is also a celebration of the present, showcasing the vibrant cultures and traditions of the Papuan communities who call this region home. You will be welcomed by their warmth and hospitality, sharing meals together and witnessing traditions under the starlit sky.
Your safety is our priority. We carry satellite phones for direct communication with our Port Moresby office and a radio for consistent connection between our lead guide and track master.
With over a decade of expertise, we’re seasoned guides leading Kokoda treks. Our experienced team ensures a safe journey, welcoming groups of four or more, solo adventurers, and even smaller groups of trekkers anytime.
Our trek kicks off at Owers’ Corner. We’ll pick you up from your accommodation and head to the starting point at Port Moresby, trekking to Goodwater Campsite, where we’ll spend the night.
Leaving Goodwater, we’ll pass through Imita Ridge and Ua-Ule, crossing several rivers before reaching Ioribaiwa Village, our resting place for the night.
Expect a challenging day as we ascend steep ridges and down into Oi-Creek, trek the 9 false peaks of the Maguli Range, and descend into the picturesque Nauro Village, our campsite for the night. (B/L/D)
After breakfast, we navigate the Nauro swamps, crossing the brown river, through Agulogo and conquer “The Wall” into Menari Gap, where we’ll spend the night at the Manari Village.
