Buna Village is home to Buna Treks and Tours. Once a single large village, Buna was devastated by Cyclone Guba in 2007. In the aftermath, the villagers sought safer ground and relocated to what is now known as Big Buna Village and the smaller Dumbari Buna Village. Our families are spread across Buna, Sanananda, and Gona, collectively referred to as the Northern Beachheads.
If you’re considering a visit to Buna, Sanananda, or Gona, you’ve come to the right place. Our tours of the Northern Beachheads offer a unique opportunity to witness the remnants of World War II, engage with local families whose lives were forever changed by the war, and experience our traditional way of life that continues to thrive despite changing times.
Whether you’re planning a pilgrimage, extending your Kokoda Trekking experience, or simply looking to enjoy the sights and relax in a friendly seaside atmosphere, the Northern Beachheads is the perfect destination.
Come and meet our only surviving grandmother to hear her firsthand account of the war, learn about our lives before and after the conflict, and discover what we look forward to in the future.
